Wrandom Wacky Wednesday

Today for my Wacky Wednesday theme, I have some, um, issues.  

Have you ever seen this? 

Except for the reasonable, horribleness that could be an accident, how does someone lose one shoe in the middle of the road?  For that matter, how does someone lose any item of clothing?  I see socks, hats (which I can see blowing off heads), shirts, etc.  I do not understand how you can lose just one shoe.  Keep your shoes on in the vehicle and this will not be a problem.  In the past month, I can almost clothe two people for all the things I see like this.

My company has summer hours that are Monday - Thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. I would rather work 7 - 5, but because I'm low-man-on-totem-pole, I get no choice.  The office manager tells me what my hours are.  So how come four out of five days, the office manager can not get here before 7:39 am?

 

Parents, when you send your child to an overnight camp, please double check what they pack; especially if they are 12 - 13 year olds, to make sure they have towels, extra socks and underwear.  It got very smelly in the 8th grade boy cabin.

Lastly, my favorite summer sound is here.  No, it's not the air brakes of the buses as they stop to pick up children (though that is a close second).  It's the cacophony of the locusts as they sing through the trees. 

I can sit out side and just hear them singing, and then going and looking for their brittle shells as they shed their layers.

Weekend Update August 7 - 8

I have four words for this weekend...Tired from Band Camp!

I had a great time.  I loved the whole 3 days I was there, but boy am I pooped!

I went out Thursday evening around 8 PM and listened to them do their first set.  They are doing songs by the band Journey; Anyway You Want It, Open Arms, and Don't Stop Believin'.  They are a great group of kids, the directors and drill team advisor, the Band Booster president, and all the parents that helped.

To be honest, I am the only parent who was out there all weekend, so I may be the one in charge in a couple of years.  Ms. Prez's daughter is a junior this year, so she will want to be out of it by next year or so.  I have at least five years (if Son stays with it, which I think he will) to go. 

The camp is so structured that it is pretty easy to do.  I think my favorite part was that my daughter would come over to where I worked with snowcones during free time and spend time with me.  I helped Son with his music while everyone else was marching (he is now in Pit because the doctor's won't let him march yet and he is too far behind.  But the Ms. Director was impressed with his playing.  He is trying to make plans for getting more kids in the Pit and having a Pit mascot and such.

The girl in the white t-shirt between to two people in orange is Daughter.  The Drill Advisor and the director's kept commenting on how she had improved so much in her marching and not getting into all the drama the other kids would cause.  She is showing real signs of being a true leader for the Drill team in the future.

This is Son on the xylophone.  He practiced a lot with the flutes and clarinets.  He plays a lot of melody and really got into it.  He really did like it and loved being there.  He liked that his father came out every night and slept in the cabin with all 18 of the 8th grade boys.

 The band is starting to grow by leaps and bounds.  

This is another picture of Friday evening on the field.  The drill team had themes every night.  Thursday night they had tie-dye shirts, Friday was Hawaiian night, and Saturday night they all wore sundresses.   It was nice to see them uniformed and a little more together.  Sometimes the girls don't mesh well together, but each group practiced in sectionals in the afternoon and it was wonderful to hear how far they came.  The first public performance is August 22nd for Hornet Day.  That is when all the fall sports/band will be introduced to the public.  It's a lot of fun.

Kent is my Boyd

Well, the last 13 hours have been crazy!  First, I want you to know that I didn't make it to the garden at all yesterday or this morning.  So I'll do that tonight and for Friday, I"ll have pictures from my garden posted.


I got home from work last night, changed clothes and went to church, thinking I had praise team practice.  Well, I did, but it was after church.  I could have sat and had a leisurely supper.  Oh well.  I sat in on Bible Study and the kids went to Youth Group.  Then we practiced.  It was a good practice.  I warned them that I am going to be at band camp all weekend, so they have to have someone on standby justincase I get sick or something.

After church, Daughter, Son and I went to Wallyworld (aka as Wal-Mart) to pick up snacks and advil.  We got Twizzlers (strawberry and black), Doritos, granola bars, Rice Krispy Treats, and cappuccino mix.  Son and I loves Hills Brothers English Toffee flavored.  Then we ran to Burger King to grab them supper at 8:30 pm.

Once we got home Daughter and I settled into So You Think You Can Dance.  It's the final four and we are totally voting for Kent Boyd!  Have you seen this cutie patootie!  Monday night, the family and I went to a Drum & Bugle Show.  We got out of our car to walk to the stadium and this couple got out of their car to walk tot he stadium.  The lady turned around and decided to take the magnet that was on her car.  I spied it just as she turned around and it was for a "Vote for Kent Boyd" magnet! As a side note:  Daughter, Son, Miss V and Miss A are going to the SYTYCD tour in October.  Daughter wants to make a shirt that says, "KENT IS MY BOYD!"  How cute is that?

We started talking and this lady's daughter danced with Kent up in Wapakoneta, OH.  She told us how nice he is and how he is so humble about the whole journey.  The town has raised a lot of money so his parents can be there for each episode and how he had outgrown the teachers and studio where he took lessons and how he would go on Youtube, watch dances and learn them himself.  It was so nice talking with this lady!  So last night Daughter and I and Miss Varsity called and voted for him as much as we could.

And then it got really windy, and started to thunder and lightning.  at 10:06 last night, the electric went out.  It came back on, and then went out again!  So we grabbed a few flashlights, fumbled for the aim and flame and lit candles.  Daughter and Son took a shower by candle light.  I opened a couple of windows in my bedroom and went to bed.  Here was the scene while I was reading by the light bulb on my phone.

This is the side table next to my bed.  Books and chargers everywhere.  I just bought some candles, so we were lucky.  But, what do you do when there is hardly any wax left of a candle?  Let me know.  Should I put a whole bunch of scents together?  I plugged my phone in to my charger, justincase the electric came back on.  And you know what?  It did, at 12:07 AM.  The reason I know?  My stupid phone lit up the whole room!  I have a light bulb app on my phone and used it to read.  So I fumbled around, got it all turned off and snoozed more.

Then I was up at 5:30, took a shower, got Daughter and Son up, got dressed, lunch packed for Foxy and was out the door @ 6:37 to take kids to school so they could leave for band camp.  All this time, dark clouds are spreading across the sky, lighning, and sprinkles.  We reach the school, make a run for it, taking in sleeping bags, suitcases, pillows and meds.  I talk to the teachers about meds and start to leave so I won't be late for work.  I see Daughter and tell her to save me a bunk.  She says "I will, but don't go out there."

I ask why and she says, "It's pouring!".  I look around and kids are soaked and spotted with rain.  So I wait a few minutes until it lightens up and then walk quickly to the car and drive off.  So now we're all caught up.

Tonight I will be joining the kids at band camp.  Hope you have a great weekend.  I'll have lots of pictures and band fun to post for you on Monday and Tuesday, probably. 

I have a favor.  I am pretty dumb when it comes to this blog stuff.  I really want a couple of buttons of my own for both my sites.  If someone can direct me in the right direction, or really help me out with this, I would so appreciate it.

Random What's In Your Purse

Wacky Wednesday

 

Today is going to be a random thought day.  

• This morning, I killed a spider.  It came down from the ceiling tiles in my office area and landed on my desk.  Spiders are not my friends.  They may eat flies and other smaller insects, but I want to get them before they try and get me!  It was a big one too!

• I have a ton to do before band camp.  I have to wash some clothes, pack, get a few snacks, find the sheets and sleeping bags.
• 
  
• Thanks to all of you who have decided to follow me or at least made a comment on one of my blogs.  I am trying to get back to each of you, but it's not easy.
• 
  
• I started a new book last night.  It's about Sean and Lee Anne Tuohy's philosphy of cheerfully giving and why they opened their homes to kids and especially Michael Oher.

 

I'm on chapter three and it is amazing!  I totally recommend it.

• I am also reading same kind of different as me.  ( I will be blogging on this when I finish it).

Weekend Update July 30 - August 1, 2010

 This is my weekend....  Friday....

My beautiful 16 year old.  It was her Sweet Party!

And who could for get Son, and his ahem, "GIRLS"!

Saturday...we went to a wedding and more dancing...

And a company picnic... with the Kona Ice truck!   Their new cheesecake flavor is to die for!  WOW.  It's like this shaved ice snowcone thing.  Loved it!

A birthday celebration.  Fox, Gpa, 3L, the Fries', Mrs. A, and Ms. Louise.  There was another one that was over 85, "MOM", but we didn't make her stand up there with the rest.  As you can see it was another crazy weekend here with See Foxes.  What did you do this weekend?
