Weekend Update Movie Reviews, Dog doings

Happy, happy Monday.  I had a pretty boring weekend, which hardly every happens in the cfoxes haushold.  So I had the really fun blog about Son being in jail and all, but I can't find the pictures.  So that will have to wait a day or two.  This week is going to be pretty busy too!

Friday I went home, we decided to take the kids out to eat before they left for Minnesota, and before the movie.  So we went to a chinese buffet.  It was good.  Then we went, picked up a friend of Daughter and BFF so they could spend a bit of time together before the movie.  If you remember, I was finally going to see Eclipse.  Then ran to the Family Dollar to pick up cheap snacks.  I hate spending $3.50 for a box of M&Ms when I can get them for $1.00 somewheres else.  That's what big purses are for!

We went to a 9:45 pm showing of the movie.  We got there, spent our money, went directly to the theater and climbed up stairs to the tippey-top.  The teenagers sat in a corner and Foxy, Son and I  sat a few seats over from them.  Son and Friend kept shushing each other all night.

Surprisingly, the theater was still pretty packed.  We waited and waited for the lights to go out.  When the previews started, I was enthralled.  Harry Potter!  Charlie St. Cloud!  Chronicles of Narnia!  I love previews.  I love dreaming of what is to come.

Eclipse was amazing, as most of you know.  I have a read a lot of your reviews for the movie and know that some of you loved it, some of you hated it and some of you were somewhere in the middle.  As for me and my house, three out of four cfoxes would recommend it to a friend.  Son was the one who didn't care for it.  Probably because the rest of us liked it so much.  I think it was a little too mushy for him.

Anyway, I loved it!  The drama, the action, the fighting, the racing hearts and my favorite scene...Charlie (Bella's dad) and Bella talking about safe sex.  I found that to be hysterical.  It would be just about like Foxy trying to talk to Daughter about it.  When she blurted out that she was still a virgin and the priceless look on Charlie's face so, so, Bahahahaha!

Saturday was spent getting the kids ready for their trip with Gpa and Gma.  We ran to the warehouse.  I bought snacks and steaks (for me and Foxy), and shears.  The shears were used in cleaning up Son's mohawk.  He is again looking like a Native American from the neck up.  Daughter and BFF babysat Bff's little sis.  So Son had Big T over and we watched a movie Foxy received for Father's Day; From ParisWith Love, or something like that. It stars John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.  I love Travolta and in this movie, he did not disappoint with the one-liners or the action.  I had no knowledge of what this movie was about, just that Travolta was in it.  Aside from it being very heavy on the bad language, I thought it was a fun movie.

Sunday, we went to church.  We went to lunch, and then we sent Son and Daughter off with Gpa and Gma to the Mall of America.  So we are kidless this week, but not dog-less.  Josie Belle was barking up a storm, really bothering me last night.  Usually she doesn't bother me when she barks, but she was driving me insane.  I don't usually hear her, but maybe it was because the kids were not at home, but I ended up bringing her in.  She ran around looking for the kids, made Foxy pet her, tried to eat a mint (which would have helped her breath), and kept waiting for us to go to bed.  She is funny that way.  When she is ready for bed, she will go down the hall to the bedroom, then come back to the living room and stop.  She will look at us and turn around.  If I get up, turn off the tv and the lights, she jumps up and takes off to the bedroom.  She loves to be in bed with us.  She sleeps at my feet, usually.

When we went to bed, Foxy noticed that one of his pillows was kinda tore up.  The cover was ripped.  Josie always goes in and pushes his pillows around with her nose.  I think she likes the smell of his nasty pillows.  I told Foxy he needs new pillows, and he says he just got these broke in.  Well, he definitely needs new pillows now.  Maybe I'll run to the warehouse club and get him some.

Well that's all the weekend news I have.  Hope your weekend was fun too!

Weekend Update: A game, a movie review, and a scavenger hunt. Oh my!

Happy Monday!  Well, okay maybe not happy, but at least it's another day.  We had another full weekend at the Fox house.

Friday after work, I stopped at Costco.  Here's what I got.
Then I went to the chiropractor.  I have had a terrible pain below my right shoulder blade.  Come to find out, I have a rib that keeps moving.  OUCH!  It hurt putting it back in.  So I go back on Wednesday evening for another adjustment.  He's really a great doc, but I hate having to be touched.

Then me and the family went to the Cincinnati Reds ballgame at Great American Ball Park with my co-workers.  What a great turnout this was.  We tailgated and watch the Reds beat the Cleveland Indians 10-4.  Then we saw some terrific fireworks displayed.

This is the riverboat that is part of the park.

This is Son, me and Daughter tailgating.

What a beautiful ball park, with a great view of the Ohio River.

Isn't this a cool fireworks display?  It looks like a dragonfly or something.

Out of focus, but still, really cool, huh?

On Saturday, me, Daughter and BFF took a road trip to Hillsboro.  Daughter was at camp there, but because of the excessive heat and her still trying to deal with food after her gall bladder surgery, she came home on Wednesday.  I had arranged with her friend's mother that I would pick them up because she was so busy with a family reunion and all.  Besides, it's a great trip over.

During that time, Son and Foxy went to church for a Father/Son Breakfast.  It was great for them.

Then Foxy, Son and I worked in the garden.  Wait until you see my new pictures tomorrow.  I am excited to show them to you!

Then Foxy, Son, Daughter, BFF and myself went and saw Toy Story 3 in 3D.  Okay, the 3D thing, for me at least was okay, but not all that.  But I did keep my cool nerd 3D glasses as a souvenior.  As for the movie, it was really good and actually touching.  We really enjoyed it and I thought it was a great way to end bring it all together.  If you know anything about Toy Story, you must see Spanish Buzz.  Hilarity abounds!

Sunday we went to church.  After church, we grabbed a bite to eat and ran back to the church for a High School/Jr. High Scavenger hunt around the city of Lebanon, OH, my hometown.

Here are some pictures from that.  Foxy and I had three girls, Daughter, Avery and Mady.  They were great fun.  As we were starting our journey around town, I took a step and my favorite pair of flip-flops broke.  I mean, the piece between the toes broke.  There is no repairing this.  So, I was forced to purchase a new pair.  For shame.  Here is what I got.

The best part was they were half off and in my size.  So now I have a pair of Vera Bradley flip-flops (pattern Night and Day).  Too cute, I think!

Band Concert and Season Finale

The Girl Creative

The Girl Creative is hosting this.  Hop over to her blog if you want to see what it is all about.

Last night, the kids participated in a band concert.  It was for the Junior High and High School and Awards were given out too.  Son received a participation award for Pep Band.  Daughter received a Pep Band Award, second year Marching Band Award (her varsity letter), and a first year concert band award.

The seniors also passed down awards for Marching band.  Daughter got a shoe.  It's kinda funny, but the tradition is to add to it every year you have it and pass it down your last year.  This is just a black, jazz shoe.

So what can she do with this?  She wants to write the year she got it, and put some felt in it.  Maybe she can put new shoe laces in it.  But I know that she will make it fabulous!

Here are a couple of pictures from last night.

The tall one in the center is Son.  Those are 7th graders.  He is pretty tall.  He is now telling us he does not want to march.  He wants to play in the drum pit.  This has upset Foxy, and I am not sure what to make of it.  I don't know if he is just being lazy or scared or what, but I am going to find the real reason.

Next to the Director (at the podium) is BFF (on the left of her).  Then Daughter is two from him.  They kids look forward to this all year, but it is bitter sweet because this is the seniors last performance as high school students.

Did anyone watch Grey's Anatomy last night?  I had DVR'd it, but decided to start it at 10:21 pm last night.  OMG!  My body shook through the whole first hour of the show.  I was so hyped and scared.  I absolutely loved every second of it.  It was one of the best season finales ever.

I am hoping the 24 will be just the same, though it is the show ending.

Have a great weekend.  I have nothing major on my weekend, so I hope to rest and clean (Yeah, right.).

Love/Hate Relationship

Today is the kids first day of school. The first day of school has always been a love/hate relationship for me. I love that the kids are getting back in a routine. 12 year old boy starts Junior High and was so excited he was up before I got him up. 15 year old girl wasn't quite as excited at first. The routine has changed because in the last two years it was usually just her and I up and at 'em until she left for the bus and then I got the boy up. Now they go together.

Things will be different after school too. First, both kids have either football or band. The 15 year old will have practice three times a week and the 12 year old will have it the same. Plus he will have Wednesday games.

I love the first day of school because the kids are excited about going back and meeting their teachers and seeing their friends.

I hate the first day of school because that means I have homework. You know, the paperwork that only a school can make you do year after year.

I love the first day of school because that means a pretty good routine will be established.

I hate the first day of school because that means summer is essentially over. The days are darkening sooner and the lazy days are behind us.

How AAA saved my life, well my pride.

Last night, I was sitting in the back of my new Ford Edge watching football practice, reading and talking with another parent. The day was dreary and darkening clouds were rolling by, threatening rain and grumbling with thunder. Flashes of lightening littered the sky, and the boys and coaches ran in to the locker rooms. After about five minutes, the boys still had not come back out, so I text my son.

ME: Whatcha doing?
HIM: Talk chalkin' over plays.
ME: Ok.

The rain started coming down in big, fat drops and the other parent jumped in their vehicle. I was sitting in the trunk area enjoying the weather. It started picking up and I decided I had better close the trunk so my legs don't get completely soaked. As I did that, I slowly lowered it and tried to stop it from just clicking shut. Nope. It latched. I pushed on the door and it stayed in place. Ok", I think. "How do I get this open without all these other parents realizing I am locked in the back of my car?" I look around and realize that I can not scoot over the top of the seats. I look to the left; nothing. I look to the right; nothing.

At this point, I text my daughter and my husband.

ME: I have locked myself in the back of the Edge. lol.

Then I see it. A small rectangle piece in the door that looks like it can come out. I try to pop it off with my fake thumbnails (because right now my thumbnails are they are the only long nails I have). They are too wide. I try a key (at least they are with me). Nope. So then I look at my keyring. On my very round and big keyring, I have a AAA card, you know like the little gas cards or other store cards you put on them. It is very thin. I put that against the rectangle and it pops right off. I put my fingers in very gently and feel around. "That is not the right place, oh, that piece goes down. Now if I push the door as I press on that piece..." A rush of relief went through me. I had unlocked the mystery, without any strangers noticing.

HER: Seriously?
ME: Yeah, but it's okay, I figured out how to open it up.

At this point her BFF called me and asked if I needed them to come and get me out. I just laughed and said, "No, I figured it out. But it is kinda funny, huh?" I am sure they were rolling their eyes at my antics.

It Has A Good Beat and Easy To Dance To....

I believe in monogomy. I have only been with one man my whole life, my husband. I am proud of that. But some of the songs today are preaching a different set of rules. One of those songs is by Pitbull called "Hotel Room". Have you heard this? The song is a hook-up song. The chorus states "Forget about your boyfriend and meet me at the hotel room, you can bring your girlfriends and meet me at the hotel room. [x2]
We at the hotel, motel, holiday inn." [x4]

I shamefully say I like the beat, but to hear my 12 year old sing this song was appalling. It is a good dance tune and there are no cussing in the song, but it basically lays it out there. I found out last night that on my 14 yo's myspace this is her song of choice. What? My 14 yo? No wonder kids today grow up too fast. Songs like this make it seem okay to ditch your girlfriend/boyfriend and have orgies. It doesn't make me feel old, but sad. Morals are thrown out the window and left on the street to rot. What do you do to fight this? Let them not listen to music? Did our parents feel this way about "Pour Some Sugar On Me?"

Gimme a S!

Tuesday is starting off slow. Yesterday, I couldn't get a word in edgewise. Today, I am begging to do something. The only major thing I have to do is get lunch for a large group and now...oh, the leader of the group wants me to stop and get these grown men and women ice cream sandwiches. Cool, huh? Oh goody, I even get one for myself (if there are any left over). What a guy! No lunch for you, but you go get them and oh, if there is any ice cream left...it's yours. I don't mind, really I don't.

Today my kids are running my husband and my friend ragged. The older kids have band practice this AM, then they come home, shower and dress, go get a couple of things at the dance shop, then take the older ones and the younger boy back to school for pictures. Then younger boy has football practice until 4:30 or 5. Then it will be done for them for the day. At least they will be busy.

What all that means is that we will eat supper at a normal time. We are use to eating supper around 6. But with football practice, it has been 8:30. So I usually haven't been eating. Late last week, my hon started going home from practice a half hour early and getting supper ready, so when the rest of us got there, we were able to eat about 15 minutes earlier. Once school starts, that will be easier to do because a) kids will be home before 5 unless there is a game and b) after Labor Day, my hours will be more normal.

So let's hear it for back to school and back to the routine! Love it!

I have been reading and researching blogs for the past year and finally decided to take the plunge. Yesterday I started with a devotional blog that I started in April. I started it because my wonderful father started chemo and radiation treatments for throat cancer. I wanted to keep our family and friends updated daily. This quickly turned into an 80+ member devotion and I have come to love. But I want to do something more. I don't know if I am in the right area, but I am going to start here and see what I can do. Whether I am interesting to anyone but myself is really not important because I like this outlet.

I am a wife of almost 19 years, a mom of a 15 year old girl and a 12 year old boyand mama to Josie Belle, our Chow-chow/Shepherd mix.. We love our city, school, and friends. We love hanging out in the backyard grilling, gardening, making smores and sitting around the fire pit. We love entertaining and enjoying life! I work as a receptionist full time.

I live in SW Ohio and today it is raining. This is a good thing, because that means we don't have to worry about watering the garden. I am excited about the garden because the beans are coming along wonderfully and I have already started getting cucumbers and various peppers coming in. Yummy! My mom, dad and I put up 15 dozen ears of corn for the winter (bought from a fabulous friend, Thanks Michael!) and will be doing more in a few weeks.

This week, my son is at church camp, having a wonderful time. At least, I think he is. He will come back on Friday and then daughter starts pre-band camp on Monday. She's on the drill team and learning the ropes of the flags and pom-poms. So life as a mother of a teenager and pre-teen goes on.

That is enough of an intro. I hope that someone out there will take an interest in my little corner of blogger.
