Travel and Heartbreak

Well, he's gone.  Son has left the state, going to Washington D.C. for his class trip.  I know that he will have a wonderful time!  He made me get up at 2:50.A.M. to make sure he was there by 4:00 A.M.  We have instilled in our children that being late is not acceptable.  So we got up, he packed the last of his stuff up and at 3:15.A.M. we were out the door.  The school is less than eight minutes away.  But he did treat me to an English Toffee Cappaccino and him two vanilla dip donuts from Tim Horton's.  So we pull in to the school parking lot at 3:35.A.M.  The only other person there was one of the teacher chaperones.  She was walking across the lot.  He was the first kid there.  Awesome.   So now, he's on his own, with the money he earned mowing, and I just pray he behaves himself.  I love that kid.

There has been tragic news in the Foxy household this week.  Daughter's boyfriend of eight months, broke up with her.  It's her first heartbreak, so there have been lots of tears.  But, she's doing okay.  It's hard, as a mom, to see her go through this and know that I can't make it better.  Ah, teenage angst!

Why is it?

Why is it that when I am not able to go to see Son's basketball game, he gets to play a lot and looks really good playing?    I do feel good that his Aunt and Uncle, plus our Associate Minister and Wife, plus Gpa and Foxy got to see him play.  He had at least 7 rebounds and 5 points, but the team still lost.  They are 3 and 3 for the season with lost of time to go and lots of improvement to be had.  At least I'll get to see him tomorrow evening. I hope he gets to play more then.

Wacky Wednesday

This morning, Gpa took Son up to the doctor to have his pre-surgery physical.  For those of you who didn't know, in August, Son broke his nose.  They did surgery and put it back in place, but the septum was still poking out to one side.  So next Tuesday, he will have a septoplasty performed.  They will slit the piece of nose in the middle, pull it back and take the mis-aligned cartilage out.  Sounds like fun, huh?

Son is starting to get nervous about it.  This morning, he and I went through what to talk to the doctor about.  He asked if Doc was going to check for a hernia (you know, turn your head and cough).  I told him, well since the surgery is in his head, I doubted that the doctor would check below his waist.

We also talked about the anti-inflammatory meds he is on.  He can take Acetaminophen, but not the prescription for his knee from now through about three weeks.  I wrote all this down for him to talk to the doctor about.  I then told him to call me on the company land line when he is finished.  So what do I get?  A text that says..."It is a go."  I am assuming that means everything was talked about and is fine for next week's surgery, but...He is thirteen.

Referrals, Pictures and I'm trying to take a breath!

Apparently I don't understand how to do things that have to do with doctor referrals and such.  Last Wednesday we went to the doctor to show off Son's new crooked nose.  Dr. Kid said he would make the referral and the ENT's office would call us.  As of last night, we still had not heard from anyone.  So I had Foxy call today to Dr. Kid and find out what was going on on their end.  They of course said they sent the referral in and the ENT should have called by now.  So Foxy got the name of the ENT and called Central Scheduling.  The person that he talked to said we had to come in TODAY.  So Foxy went and picked up the x-ray of the nose, picked up Son and I met them at the Cincinnati Children's Medical Center (CCMC) satellite.  We met the ENT, a short balding man who was all business.

He basically told us that Dr. Kidd should have called them because just sending the referral doesn't work.  The paper ends up on a pile.  He then told us that they like to fix broken noses in 7 days or less.  But being less than two weeks, it's still okay.

Dr. ENT looked at Son and said, "Well you don't need CT-Scan to see that his nose is broke."  Was that suppose to be funny?  I think he was trying to be.  Well, he said that surgery will either be tomorrow or Tuesday.    He didn't explain the procedure, just that they are going to do a Closed Reduction of the Nasal Fracture.  Basically they are going to straighten his nose.  He said he can go back to his regular activities tomorrow night.  Seriously?  He is going to be under general anesthesia until 2:30, then recover for a couple hours or so, and then he can go to marching band?  Yeah, I don't think so.  I may miss my first football game in a couple of seasons.  I'm just glad it's not a league game.

***************************

So how about some random pictures?  Yeah?  Okay!

Daughter is wearing the top from her Drill Team halftime outfit.

The girl on the bench in the middle (next to #25) wearing the headband is Miss Varsity Cheerleader.  She also plays soccer.  Unfortunately, they lost this game 1 - 0.

This is what the nurses at the Oral Surgeon's place did to Daughter's arm.  She now looks like she is a user.  Her face is not swollen, but bruised under each cheek.  She told someone she got in a fight, and they believed her.  Daughter fighting?  How could anyone believe that?  LOL.

Well, I am trying to take a breath.  I hope to send out a blog tomorrow, but if not, you will know where I'll be.  Have a great Thursday!

Wacky Wednesday

I am off to the doctor with Son.  His nose and face reminds me of Eric Stolz's face in MASK.  Remember that movie with him and Cher?  I loved that movie.  Except when Rocky died at the end.  That wasn't fair.

The worst part of this whole broken nose thing is that the hospital tries to be helpful and give us the name of a Ears, Nose and Throat doctor to help.  So when I called this doctor, they told me they were not on our network.  So I called our family doctor, who instead of giving me a name, is making me come in.  I guess he wants to see the fracture for himself.

So, the hospital doctor gave Son Acetaminophen-Codeine to take by mouth every 6 hrs as needed for four days.  That's 32 pills.  I am not sure we got that much, but thankfully, Son has a very high tolerance for pain.  He only takes one pill after band and one pill around 9:30 pm.  Then he fights the sleep.  I'm sure right now that sleep is elusive.  He was starting to having sinus issues before he broke his nose, and now he can't breathe or put the spray up his nostril to use.  Poor thing!

I'll update everyone tomorrow!

Wacky Wednesday

Well this has already been a week where things aren't exactly as they should be.
Let me explain.

Sunday, Daughter and I took Son and two other young girls over to church camp.  They will be staying there until Friday evening. When we left Son, his eyes were beginning to have dark circles under them and he looked tired.  I am not a huge worry wort, but I had this niggling that something may not be okay with him. He had just gotten home less than three days ago from a long trip to Minnesota and he is not one to need tons of sleep, but had been staying up late.

Anyway on Monday, I came home from work and my phone needed charging.  I almost always keep my phone next to me on silence. I got my charger, plugged it in at a receptacle in the kitchen and went to the dining room to eat.  When I went back to the kitchen to do dishes, I noticed that there was a call from the camp.  I tried to call the number back, but it was the office number and no one was was in the office at 6:30 pm.

So I asked Foxy if he had a call.  No, he didn't have one.  Then I asked Daughter.  No, she didn't have one.  So I started to pace.  I did dishes, tried the number again and finally sat down in the living room to watch some mindless tv.  My mind had been imagining all the terrible scenarios;  Son wanted to come home because he was tired; Son has bee hurt; Son was in a fight...wait, Son is so laid back and all talk, so he would never throw a punch and it is church camp.  So finally at 9:30, another call came in.

"Mrs. Fox?  This is Connie over at Butler Springs."

"Yes?"  I tentatively asked.

"This isn't an emergency."  I think to myself Then why are you calling me?

"But Son has hurt his knee.  He was playing a game and thinks it went out of place.  He is using crutches we have here, but I think it should be x-rayed and checked out."

"Can I talk to him?" I ask.

"Sure.  I sent him into the cafeteria to get a snack.  Hold on."

I hear lots of noise and finally, "Hi Mom."

My heart melts at his low voice.  "Hey.  What happened?"

Son tells me the whole story.  He jumped up and landed perfectly, so he says.  Then the knee turned or moved.  He couldn't straighten it or put any pressure on it.

I am just relieved that he is okay. I talk to Foxy and update him.  We decide that maybe it should be looked at.

"Okay.  We'll come and take you to get it x-rayed.  See you soon.  Let me talk to Connie."

"Okay."

Connie comes back on and we discuss it and I tell her we are 90 minutes away and it will be after 11.  She says that is fine.

So I go bang on the bathroom door because Daughter is in the shower.  When she gets out, I tell her what's going on.  She says she'll go.  Besides, she has nothing going on on Tuesday anyway.

We jump in the Edge, fill up on gas and coffee and trot off in the dark.  It's out in the middle of no where, where only deer cross the roads.  So we have to be on the look out.  We see one deer on the way over, but I get us there safely.

He's waiting for us and he looks so good, but tired.  From the minute he sees us, he starts talking non-stop.  He tells us exactly about the injury, how it feels, how much sympathy from everyone (especially the girls).  He talks about his "family" which is the group he is in (there are 160 pre-teen/teenagers) there.  He tells me how awesome his counselors are, how they made him ride the big swing (he is scared of heights), how they have all these plans for "American Idol" night and how he is the lead singer for the song that is planned (a Justin Bieber song, Baby, I think).

We get to the hospital 30 minutes later and get signed in and back into an emergency room.  They finally get a doctor to come in and see him.  He's an older man who spends five minutes with us.  Five.Minutes.  Hello?  In that time, the doctor makes Son straighten his leg, which leads to Son yelping, and a decision to have films made.

Someone comes and takes Son to his x-rays.  We wait for a half-hour more and speculate what is really wrong with his knee and the consequences and finally a nurse comes in with this huge immobilizer.  Son looks at that and asks, "What's that for?"

The nurse response, "Your knee."

Son asks, "What's wrong with it?"  She tells him that the doctor will tell him.  She puts this huge contraption on his knee and it hurts and is uncomfortable.  He is getting madder by the minute.  "I'm not wearing this thing.  It hurts to have it straight.  How am I going to sleep?" She asks him his height and goes gets a pair of crutches.

The doctor finally comes in and says to wear this and elevate the leg.  We have to actually ask him "What is wrong with it?"

He gestures toward Son and says, "Its sprained.  Everything will be explained in the paperwork I give you."  What the ...Some doctor this is.  It's not like the waiting room was jammed full or anything.  There were several patients, but not taking the time to really talk to Son about his injury and how long to wear the brace and ecetera doesn't help.

So we talk and Son adamantly insist that he is going back to camp.  This is not going to slow him down.  Foxy and I look at each other and say, "Okay.  We'll take you back to camp.  Make sure you try and do everything you need to do to keep that knee healing."  I told him that he needed to ice it and try and put pressure on it in a few days.

So we get him back to camp at 2:20 am.  And Foxy drives us home, seeing several more deer, 180 miles and knowing that Tuesday was not going to be a great day.  We reach home at 4 am.  It's Wednesday mid-morning, and I am still feeling the affects of it.  But I know Son's having the time of his life and going to be a blessing to all around him.

What an adventure

Weekend Update for June 18 - 20 - I made this long because there is more hours of light today.

Happy Summer Solstice!  What are you doing today to celebrate summer?  I am working.  How exciting is that?

This was a pretty busy weekend. We celebrated Father's Day, Daughter left for Church Camp, we were shopping all day...it was pretty busy.

Friday, I left work and went to the hospital.  My very close friend's father passed away suddenly and I needed to be with her.  She just lost her mother three months ago, so this is probably enough to put anyone over the edge.  My heart is with her and her family right now.

In the evening, we had the closing program for Vacation Bible School.  We had the closing program which the MC kept adding to and it ended up being over and hour and a half.  Ridiculous!  It should have been 40 minutes, in and out and then everyone could have fun.  But sometimes people like being in the limelight and thinks everyone won't mind "just one more song."

On a good note, the students raised over $700 for the missionary.  This year the mission chosen was called the Warrior Backpack Program.  The local school system started this last year and each week packed a backpack of food for children to take home.  It wasn't for low-income students, or anything like that, it is to insure that all kids get at least a few good, healthy meals on the weekends because sometimes the only healthy food that a child gets is from the school during breakfast and lunch.  Just this $700 can make over 2,500 meals!  That is half of what they did last year.  Way to go kids!

We had a cookout following the program and a dunking booth which the kids really enjoyed.  Then some of us cleaned up and got outta there!

Saturday, Daughter and I got up and piddle around for a bit.  She was leaving for camp on Sunday, and we still needed to get her a one-piece swimsuit and the essentials.  Plus she was still doing laundry and had not started packing.

So we picked up BFF and went shopping.  Shopping with Daughter is honestly not always fun.  She likes to look and look, until it comes to swimsuits.  See, she's top heavy and hates the suits with support.  She's only 15, but she is twice as big as me in this department and it's something I have never had to worry about.

Anyway, we ended up at Dick's Sporting Goods and found one that was not only expensive, but not stylish.  She's all about fashion, you know.  I think it's cute, but I'm just Mom.

I also found this shirt for Son that is black with an orange and blue basketball on the front made of little pieces of basketball material.  It says something like I don't have to tell you how good I am.  Just watch and learn.  This is in black all through the emblem on his shirt.  I thought it was kinda cool.  He basically work it the rest of the weekend.

We finished up the shopping, got food and went to Costco.  There I got my Dad and Foxy's presents.  My Dad is a huge American history buff, so I found a book on Abraham Lincoln's last 12 months in office.  He already started reading it.

For Foxy, the kids (Son) wanted to get him some DVDs.  So I picked these.

We watched Shutter Island yesterday. Son wanted to because we heard it was really scary and he didn't want to have nightmares.  So we watched it at 3:30 in the afternoon.  It was really a good, play with the mind suspenseful movie.  There was only one scene that kinda freaked the guys out.  I apparently was getting a load of laundry done, so I didn't see it.  Son keeps come running in to me, tagging me and shouting "Tag, your it!"  If you have seen the movie, this will make sense to you.   We haven't seen the other two, but Foxy has talked about The Book of Eli since seeing previews for it.  He was happy with the selections.

Anyway, we gave the gifts to our Dads on Saturday evening when we went out to eat.  We went to Smokey Bones.  It was yummy, and a lot of food.  We celebrated Father's Day a day early because of Daughter leaving.  It worked out well.  Everyone was happy.

Well, mostly.  Daughter gets really nervous when she goes away from home for extended periods of time.  So Saturday evening and Sunday morning she was a little weepy.  BFF did everything he could to keep her upbeat and not crying.  He didn't want that.  He will miss her, but she needs to go.  She needs this time away.  She loves camp.  she has basically grown up there.  There is just her and Dancer.  They were making all kinds of plans and will have a great time. I will miss her this week, but it helps her grow up a little.

Sunday we had a great church service, ran to get lunch and then finish Daughter's packing.  Then I took her over to Dancer's house.  Dancer's mom was taking them to camp.  I am picking them up.

Then, I came home, did some light cleaning and piddled around the house the rest of the night.  It was nice to be home and not running.

As usual, it was a very busy, crazy weekend.  I don't see it getting any better in the foreseeable future, either.  Have a great Summer Solstice!

HAVE FUN!

So last night, I was taking BFF home with Daughter and Miss Varsity Cheerleader and the brakes went out on the caddy.  Foxy worked all day Tuesday on Daughter's car, so now his car is down.  Good thing he is off until June 18th!    Hopefully he will be able to fix this cheaply an quickly.  Hopefully!

DID you watch So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) last night?  What amazing things.  When Pasha took his shirt off...let's just say my daughter and I were wiping drool off our chins.  And Jose with Twitch, Comfort and Dominic.  I bow to them.  They are all so awesome!  Kent Boyd (from Ohio) was perfection with Travis Wall's dance and let me tell you...Wade Robson's  (and his wife's) choreography for the opening number, I literally bow down to.  I can not get enough of this show.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

Today I only work until noon because this company has summer hours from the Monday after Memorial Day to the Friday before Labor day.  I seem to feel rushed today, but my 12:05 pm I am gone!

Daughter and I are getting hairs cut today and Son is having the percussion tryouts.  Wish him luck (though he doesn't need it!).

Tomorrow we are going the Banana Split Festival and who knows what else.  Have a great weekend, I will try and post something about mine on Monday!  Love to all!

Wacky Wednesday

Welcome to all my new friends!  I hope you are all well.

Today's wackiness is courtesy of my dad (Gpa) and my son (Son).  They are a pair.  One is 67, one is 13.  They are spending the majority of the summer together, mostly at my request for Gpa to keep Son busy and out of trouble.  But so far, Son doesn't seem to mind.  This only happens when Foxy is working.

Last night, Gpa and Gma came over to pick up Son. Gpa brought his new laptop over and was show us thing about it.  It is nice.  It has a camera on it, so Son started taking pictures of Gpa and himself.  Next thing I know, there are green neon bars on the screen and they are laughing, saying this is what is going to happen this summer.   JAIL!  I rolled my eyes and told them that if I get a call from the cops, they will just sit in there until I am good and ready to get them out.  Gpa looked at Son and said, "What happens between Gpa and Son, stays between Gpa and Son."   Well, that will never happen because Son is always telling me what trouble he and Gpa create/get in to.

Son went over there last night because Foxy works today and tomorrow.  Our church helps out the first Wednesday of every month at the local food bank.  So my parents go help.  Son gets to help out too.  Son is 5'9" and fairly strong.  He will be good to help the older people with the heavy boxes.  Also, when his best friend gets to town in 2 days for the summer, they will meet there and mess around.  Last year J-dog and Son had some cool adventures, like find a bat!  J-dog's grandmother is a member of our church and family.   Anyway, there will be stories about J-dog and Son I am sure later this summer.

Son also had his first Percussion Clinic yesterday.  There were like ten kids trying out and Son was the only one to pick cymbals.  I hear most drum lines don't consider cymbals as part of the drum line, but we are small enough we do.  I asked him why cymbals and he said because no one else picked it.  Always have to be different and stand out, don't ya?  That's my boy!  Anyway, he loved the three hours yesterday and learned his piece quickly.  He is good and going by ear and memorizing, so hopefully that will be an advantage for him.  He said the hard part was learning to stand at attention.  Something about butt cheeks pinching a marble, knees not locked, shoulders up, back, down.  I know that very quickly they holler these things for the whole band.

Have a great Wednesday.  Oh, it's really wet here!  Torrential rains this AM, so thank you God for watering my garden!  I so appreciate that.

Yesterday I promised some pictures of our garden.  Foxy planted the following:  tomatoes, peppers, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, lettuce, and watermelon.
This is the watermelon.

This is the cucumber (I think).

We planted in two places.  We have a garden in the backyard and then some along the side of the house.  I love to can and freeze food, so this will be a busy harvest, Lord willing.

At 1245 pm, school is officially out for my kids.  Daughter has her hardest exam today.  I pray that she does okay.  Son is off with GPa.  They are going garage-sale hopping.  They are looking for vices.  But those two together are TROUBLE!  Last night, GPa told Son that "What happens while you and me are together, stays between us."  That could be trouble.  I told them that if I hear from the cops, they can rot in jail for a day.   Ha, ha.

Monday's Weekend Update

Happy Monday...or not.  It rained here all weekend, well, mostly yesterday, but we haven't seen the sun since like, Thursday.  Luckily, we do not have the flooding some of you are going through.  But of course we the fog lifted this morning, there was the sun.  Just as most of us are going back to work.  But, it was a good weekend anyway.

Friday evening, I went with Foxy, Daughter, BFF, Gpa, Gma, and Miss Deb to see the movie Letters To God and out for pizza before hand.  What an amazing movie.  It was truly inspirational.  I hope that each of you see it or rent it when it comes to DVD.  There were 30 to 40 of us in the theater, watching and by the end of this movie no one moved, except Gpa.  When the credits rolled, we sat there.

The reason Gpa got up and left was this movie showed a little boy going through cancer and treatments.  Since my dad just went through that about 10 months ago, it was just too soon for him to watch it.  But he really liked the movie too.

Saturday was kind of busy.  Daughter and I went and got the oil changed in the Edge.  While we were there this is what was at the Ford dealership.  It made me ask myself and Daughter a few questions...

Why were there bicycles at the car dealership?  Did they get good amounts on their trade-ins?  Were they being serviced?  My husband's question was, Who had their license taken away and had to ride to work?

Then I made Daughter drive.  She did great!  We stopped at the grocery on the way home and here is were she parked.

See that red Edge waaay, out there?  She slipped it into a space where no other cars were around.  She did fine, but she is nervous about trying to park by people.  She did well, though.  I am proud of her.  She is getting better all the time.

Later that evening, we all went to church for the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet.  This year's theme was My Childhood Doll.  Here are a few pictures from that.  The lady who thought up the theme and did most of the co-ordination and decorating is simply amazing.  Actually, so is her mother.  Her mother made all the dolls (over 100) and all the cradles and probably all the booklets.  That family is amazing.

Isn't this centerpiece adorable?  They gave 13 away as door prizes, along with other dolls.  Mainly two Raggedy Ann's that our special speaker made.

This is what each table looked like.  What a beautiful setting.

This was our program.  The colors were purple, yellow and green.  So pretty.

The meal was made by several in our church and the men of the church served us.  It was such a fun evening.  Mom's name was drawn for a doorprize and picked a cute little Amish doll to take home.  She loves books on the Amish life, so this was perfect for her.

And finally, a picture of me and Daughter.  She is so beautiful and tall.

Sunday we went to church, came home, went to eat and I took Daughter to meet up with friends to make posters for Marching Band Drill Team Tryouts.  Then Son, BFF, and I went to get Son a new pair of tennis shoes.  His feet are still growing!  He is now 5'9" and in a size 10.5 shoe.  He said, "They look like clown shoes!"

Handsome, ain't he?

So how did your weekend go?

Wacky Wednesday

Welcome to all my new Blog Buddies!  I am so happy to have so many new friends!

Today at See Foxes?  I always try and give you a look at my wacky family.  I love each and every one of the them and I thank the Lord for them because if they weren't around, what else would I have to write about?  Right?

Daughter, Son and I were sitting on our sofa.  It is a reclining sofa, so the two end seats recline with footrests.  I was on one end and Son on the other, with Daughter in the middle.  Daughter wanted to recline too, so she put one leg on my footrest and one leg on Son's footrest, sharing with us.  Son looked at her and said, "Isn't that uncomfortable?", as her legs were spread out quite far.  She said, "Not when you are flexible."  Our teenage neighbor was in gymnastics and cheerleading.  She taught Daughter, who was around four at the time,  to do the straddles.  For years, Daughter would sit on the floor in front of the tv, in the straddle position, not even thinking about it. She would even lean down and put her chin on the floor.  It took me a long time to break her of that!

Last night, Daughter drove BFF home.  She was a bit nervous because he lives in the middle of a steep hill.  He said, "Don't leave yet.  Let me go get my Grandma and little Sis to watch you drive away."  So we waited.  As we were waiting, I told her to keep her foot on the brake hard so she wouldn't go backward down the hill.  She stated that she didn't want to do a burn out or anything either.  As soon as they came out, she mashed the gas and did a huge burnout up the hill.  I was cracking up the whole way.  I called BFF and he was laughing so hard!  He loved it.  Daughter was a bit embarassed, but at least we got that out of the way too.  It was really funny.

Son keeps telling us he wants to go to a military school.  I think it's admirable, that he already knows he would like to follow in his oldest sister's steps and go in to the service.  So my parents took a little trip to Pennsylvania and Virgina last week and stopped at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).  We have been kidding Son that Gpa was going to pick up an application for him.  So Son called Gma and asked her about it.  She said they had toured the facility and all we had to do was come up with $36.000 a year!  A.YEAR!  WOW!  Son told us that and Foxy looked at him and stated, "I'll just wait until you are 16 and put you in the Army.  It will be much cheaper!  LOL

Have a great day!

Let 'Er Rip!

Here is a TMI for ya all.

Son: I got sent to the Principal's office today.

Me: What did you do this time?

Son: Uh, I let one rip.

Me: What?

Son: I was sitting in Mr. History's class and had to let it loose.

Me (giggling): What made that make you go to the Principal?

Son: Well, Mr. History took a whiff and started choking. Everyone in the class had to evacuate the room.

Mr. History said, "Son."

Son said, "Yes, Mr. History?"

Mr. History said, "Go the Ms. Principal's office."

Son said, "Why, Mr. History?"

Mr. History said, "You know why."

Son said, "Yes, Mr. History."

Son: So I went down to the office.

Me (laughing hard): And what did Ms. Principal say to you?

Son: This is the stupidest reason I have ever heard for sending someone to the office.

Me (tears running down my face): Ha, ha, ha, ha. What did she say?

Son: Next time just hold it in. I told Ms. Principal that I would try, but if my belly started rumbling, it will be coming out!

Me, shaking my head: Go wash up for dinner.

I can never show my face to that teacher. EVER.
