Tasty Thursday

This has been a crazy week.  Last night we went to the Powder Puff game and then I went to choir.  Daughter's BF was a cheerleader, along with his best friend and another boy from the drumline.  Son and his friends can't wait to do it next year!  LOL

This is Homecoming week, so the kids dress up for each day.  Monday was Twin day.  Tuesday was Decade day.  Yesterday was your Grade color and today is Mismatch day.  Here is Daughter's picture.  She let her brother dress her.

Here is my tasty meal.  It is great for great autumn and winter days when you just want to warm up.

Illinois Corn Sausage Chowder

1 lb. bulk pork sausage
1 c. coarsely chopped onion
4 c. 1/2 inch cubed, peeled potatoes
1/2 tsp. dried marjoram, crushed
1/8 tsp. ground pepper
2 c. water
1 (17 oz.) cream style corn
1 (17 oz.) whole kernel corn (drained)
1 (12 oz.) can evaporated milk

In a Dutch oven or kettle, cook sausage and onions until sausage is brown and onion is tender.  Drain on paper towels.  Return sausage and onion to Dutch oven with potatoes, marjorum, pepper and water.  Bring to boiling; reduce heat and simmer just until potatoes are tender (about 15 minutes).  Add last three ingredients.  Stir and heat through.

We love this at my house!  Yummy!

Wacky Wednesday

Wasn't Glee a lot of fun last night?  I read somewhere that Ryan Murphy (the creator) said there wouldn't be as many songs sung.  Well, I think that so far, that is a lie.  Between last week and all the Brittany Spears songs this week, I am in overload!
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
So my dad had an outpatient procedure done at noon today.  He had his port taken out of his shoulder.  So at 1:08 pm (EST) I received an email that stated,

i'm home and fine little foggy but ok eating yuk and drinking coffee.

Yuk to my dad is yogurt.  LOL.

Tonight, Daughter's boyfriend is being a cheerleader with his bestfriend for the Powder Puff football games.  So we are going to go watch him play, then I am going to choir practice (not sure about Daughter and Son).

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
So I am mad that Molly and Mike didn't DVR on Monday.  Did anyone else watch it?  Let me know what you thought.

Weekend Update - Boring...

Well this weekend was actually kind of boring for us.  It was nice to just not do much, but I did do a lot.

Friday was the football game.  It was the other team's homecoming, so our band only got to help perform pre-game (a.k.a. the Star Spangled Banner).

The only drum member without a hat is Son.  He usually plays in the pit and looking up and down is hard and the hat will not stay on.

Daughter is the one looking at the camera.  They are all beautiful!

Saturday, we cleaned a bit and then Daughter, Son, and I went shopping.  Daughter was looking for accessories for her dress.  She found a pretty necklace, and a hair clip that she will have the hair dresser put up.    Son got a new game, which I was going to wait and get him in a few weeks because of his surgery, but why wait?

So then Daughter's BFF started drama and mad it a miserable evening for her.  So we decided it was an ice cream night, so we took everyone, including her BF, and got UDF.  I actually got a mocha cappaccino milkshake and I am disappointed to say it was terrible.  I love coffee ice cream, but i will never get that again.

Yesterday we had church, then a baby shower for a sweet friend.  But, we barely got it started and Son called me saying he was sick.  Daughter stayed and had fun with Gma, and I went home to stay with Son and do most of the laundry.

Did anyone else see Desperate Housewives?  What did you think?  I thought parts of it were hysterical and Brian Austin Green?  So cute!

What the Friday...

What the Friday is where I complain/post random thoughts.  Here we go.

1.  Did anyone like $*^% My Dad Says last night?  It really wasn't that funny.  What the Friday!

2.  My 16 yo daughter drew a whale that everyone associates with something else.  Son asked her if it was a Sperm whale.  What the Friday!

3.  It's September 24, and we are still in the 90's.  Is Autumn coming anytime soon or are we going to just get a snowstorm and below zero temperatures around Thanksgiving?  What the Friday!

4.  Did anyone else think that Grey's was okay, but not as good as last spring's season finale?  What the Friday!

5.  I live in SW Ohio.  It is so dry in the states around us that fires are popping up in Kentucky and Indiana.  People if you didn't flick your cig butts out the window, this probably would not happen.  Just saying.  What the Friday!

6.  Our little paper put the same article in the paper, side by side, under two different headings.  Twice I started to read the same article.  How big a blunder was that?  The outcome of it was still the same though.  What the Friday?

This weekend isn't too bad.  Tonight is Friday Night Lights.  Tomorrow I take Daughter accessory shopping and shopping for a baby gift.  Sunday is a baby shower after church and Son is going to a birthday party.  Foxy works.

What is your weekend and What the Friday going to be like?

Favorite Cookies and Randomness

It's Thursday!  I am looking forward to the weekend already.

Last night, we drove and hour to go to a church family member's parent funeral visitation. The sweet lady and her husband had been over to our church many times to listen to the choir sing, watch their grandkids in plays and was just always there to support them.  I know she will be missed sorely.

So on the way over, Son had my iPod and we were all listening to it.  He started singing some of the songs in a falsetto voice and Daughter started to record him on her phone.  We were laughing so hard.  We found out that he only knows the chorus of most of the songs, and then starts making up words or mumbling.  Quite amusing.

So this morning, I need to leave early to go get gas.  I will stop and get a cup of coffee too.  I usually just wait until I get to work to drink my coffee.  It's free there.  But stopping at the gas station, I can get different flavors and sometimes that is just nice.

So when my children were younger, I would make sugar cookies and ice them for their classes.  I had one teacher who thought I made the best cookies ever.  (Bless her.)  I honestly did nothing spectacular with them, but I love to make cut-out cookies.  So here is my recipe.

Betty Crocker Sugar Cookies

1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
1 cup Butter, softened
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 teaspoon Extract (I use Almond or Peppermint)
1 Egg
2 1/2 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Cream of Tartar

Mix powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, extract and egg.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  Cover and refridgerate at least 3 hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Divide dough into halves.  Roll half of dough to 3/4" or thinner on a lightly floured cloth covered board.  Cut into desired shapes.  Bake 7 to 10 minutes or until the edges are light brown.

For the frosting/icing I love to use the shiny Royal icing, but can not seem to place my fingers on it.  If you want it, let me know and I'll find it for you.

Have a great day!

Wacky Wednesday

I love the first week of new television shows.  The hype, the interest.

Monday night, after a 2-hour Dancing With the Stars, Foxy and watched "Hawaii 5-0".  I must say, I loved it.  The chararcters were likeable without being over the top, the story line may be a bit much and the action was pretty much non-stop.  There were some big guns being pulled out, and Foxy said, "They didn't have that in the 70s."  I said, "They were allowed to show that in the 70s."  But we liked it.

So when I get home last night, I had DVR'd "Mike and Molly".  It was a goofy show that made me giggle.  The jokes were cute, she is as cute as a  button, but it was strange.  Not sure why, maybe just the poking fun at fat people thing made me uncomfortable because well, you know, our parents told us not too, right?  So the jury is still out on this one.

Last night, as all the universe knows, was "Glee" night, and it did not disappoint.  Daughter and I were very happy with it.  The new kid, Sam (played by Chord Overstreet), has an amazing voice, and all the songs were well done.  I was reading a Facebook update while waiting for the kids dance class to get over and the person said they only knew Poison's 'Every Rose Has It's Thorn' and none of the other songs.  So as I was listening, I realized they only have a 2 month old kid and are exposed to the radio played songs.  I knew them all.  I loved it!

To night is the new season of Criminal Minds and that new show with Jim Belushi and Jim Connelly.  Hopefully we will be home in time for them.  I have a go to a funeral viewing tonight.  :[

So the wackiness for the week is Daughter's homecoming shoes.  Here is a picture.

Aren't they fabulous?  Her boyfriend has just black low-cuts, but she is wearing these with here dress.  At least she will be comfortable!

So what new shows are you into?  Give us your perspective.

Weekend Update September 17 - 19

Good Monday to you!  Hope you had a great weekend.  We did.  Tiring, but good.

Friday was football!  Our Hornets beat the Wildcats.  The other team had a lot of things to do during halftime, so we didn't get to see our band until after the game. And we didn't know that, so Son didn't bring his xylophone.  It was a bummer.

Saturday AM, we went to get our running around done; grocery, snacks for band, Foxy and Son had the girls soccer team wash the car, and then home to cook 24 lbs. of spaghetti for Sunday.

Daughter, BF and his mother went shopping for homecoming.  They found BF a nice outfit and started debating on shoes.  BF came up with the idea of them wearing Chuck Taylor's.  So he got a nice pair of low-cut, black Converse and they got her a silver pair.  Well, they will be comfy.

Then on to a band competition very close to here.   Foxy and I rode with the band trailer and helped with the instruments and watched the kids.  It was most of the kids first time at a competition and they did fabulous.  But, the highlight was the University of Dayton's marching band came down and did an exhibition for everyone.

UD's band.

Sunday, the youth put on a spaghetti dinner.  It was very successful!  Here are a few pictures.

So how was your weekend?

What The Friday!

What the Friday is a combination of rants, raves and observations.

What the Friday...
  • Wednesday the Caddy started with a big poof and and big cloud of white smoke.  Then it died.  Yesterday, it started right up with no problems.
  • We woke up this morning with temperatures in the 50s.  I am not complaining!  It's great!
  • There were tornados in central and Southeastern Ohio yesterday afternoon.  Here in the Cincinnati area, it clouded up, got sunny, got windy and looked like it would storm, all between 7 am and 5 pm.  Then turned into a wonderful calm night.

This weekend is as busy as all the others.  We have football/band tonight.  But the game is only about 20 minutes away.  Saturday, we have to grocery shop and the band has a competition 15 minutes away in the evening.  Sunday, the youth are putting on a spaghetti dinner for the church to raise money for a little girl in Haiti that they adopted.  Guess who's cooking?  Foxy and the Assistant Minister are doing most of it.  But the big news is that Daughter's new beau is coming to church with us Sunday.  Should be interesting!

So I will leave you with a pretty sunrise picture I took Wednesday, while sitting at a light.

Recipe Thursday

So, in a 24-hour period I saw four accidents.  The first three were less than two miles from my house.  Then yesterday morning, another pickup truck in the median of the highway.  People, people, people, please put down your cell phones and watch the road.  I know it wasn't a full moon, so everyone just needs to watch themselves.

Here is another simple and fast recipe from my tried and true recipe book.

Ham and Cheese Casserole
Taken from the Simple and Delicious July/August 2008 magazine

1 pound fully cooked, cubed ham
1 package egg noodles
2 cans (10 3/4 oz. each) condensed Cream of Chicken soup
2 cups frozen green beans, thawed
1/2 cup milk
1/8 cup butter
1 cup Colby-Jack cheese, shredded

Cook noodles according to the package.  Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine ham, soup, beans, and milk.  Drain noodles; pour over ham mixture and toss to coat.  Transfer to a greased 13"X9"X2" baking dish.  Drizzle with butter; sprinkle with cheese.  Bake at 350 degrees, until cheese has melted and  casserole is hot, about 25 to30 minutes.

Doesn't that sound easy-peasy?  I think I'm going to make that next week!  Yummy!  Serve with bread and a fruit salad.

Wacky/Dance Party Wednesday

This is turning in to Dance Party Wednesday.  I again have pictures of my kids showing us what they learned at hip hop/jazz class.  Again, Son is waiting it out with his knee.  We are waiting for an appointment with an Orthopedic doctor.  We have been told that the MRI was clean (Praise God!), but our doctor wants a 2nd opinion.  Foxy and doctor agrees, his knee cap moves because he has grown so much in the last year (6 inches or so), that the muscles, ligaments or whatever, haven't caught up.  So we have heard there is a special brace that will keep the kneecap in place.  So we are crossing our fingers.

So here are the pictures. I apologize for the fuzziness of the pictures.  My phone usually takes good pictures, but I think the kids were moving too much!

Go, Daughter, go Daughter!

This was suppose to be done like Daughter, popping your chest out.  Son, of course, thought your pelvis should be the focal point!  FAIL!

So join me by showing your kids or yourself dancing!  Join the dance party!
